Certified Nurse Practitioner (Hmong American Partnership)

  • Agency: Hmong American Partnership, 1075 Arcade Street, St. Paul, MN 55106 in partnership with Century College
  • Brief Description: The CNA program with HAP pays tuition for eligible students to attend the accelerated CNA program at Century College. HAP provides Adult Basic Education tutoring and support as needed for students in areas of reading, writing, math, job searching, and financial literacy.

Child Development Bridge Class (Hubbs Center)

  • Brief Description: This class will transition students into Child Development Coursework at Saint Paul College. Students will build college readiness, increase computer skills, and gain work expeience.

CISCO Systems Certification (Guadalupe Alternative Programs)

CNA Certification (Guadalupe Alternative Programs)

College Prep: Listening and Speaking (Minnesota Literacy Council)

  • Agency: Minnesota Literacy Council, Open Door Learning Center, 2700 East Lake Street, Suite 2500, Minneapolis
  • Brief Description: This class focuses on the following academic and professional skills: presentation delivery (e.g. projecting, making eye-contact, annunciating, and having good posture) and presentation readiness (e.g. organization and content); carrying out a role in a small group discussion; conducting an academic debate; note-taking during a lecture; identifying rhyme/close rhyme; pronunciation, syllabic stress, and word linking for improved comprehensibility. The thematic units covered consist of, but are not limited to: Test Prep, Current Events, Critiquing, Biographies & Autobiographies, Universal Human Rights, The Job Application Process (e.g. interviewing and employee review), Pronunciation, Poetry, and Debate.

College Prep: Reading and Writing  (Minnesota Literacy Council)

  • Brief Description: This class focuses on the following academic and professional skills: skimming/scanning, predicting, questioning text, using context clues, understanding literary devices, refuting counter-arguments, providing evidence to support controlled thesis, critiquing, writing resumes & cover letters, and summarizing without plagiarizing. The thematic units covered consist of, but are not limited to: Test Prep, Current Events, U.S. History, Biographies & Autobiographies, Universal Human Rights, The Job Application Process (from career exploration through the employee review process), Novel-reading, Essay-writing, and Controversial Issues.

  • Brief Description: T he Commercial Driver’s License Permit class provides classroom instruction to pass the General Knowledge permit test.

Commercial Driver's License (Hmong American Partnership)

  • Agency: Hmong American partnership, 1075 Arcade Street, St. Paul, MN 55106
  • Brief Description:  The Commercial Driver’s License class provides classroom instruction to pass the Permit test as well as behind-the-wheel instruction to pass the Class B license.  Students also receive the passenger, school bus and air brakes endorsements.

ELL Job Club for Retail Literacy and Healthcare Careers (MORE)

  • Brief Description: ELL Job Club for Retail Literacy and Health Care Careers trains students in customer service skills (retail and food service) and entry-level healthcare career vocabulary. Students also learn important vocabulary and techniques for filling out applications, job searching, interviews, and handling various work situations.

Glazing, Construction, Drywall - Women at Work (Hmong American Partnership)

  • Agency: Hmong American partnership, 1075 Arcade Street, St. Paul, MN 55106 in partnership Finishing Trades Institute
  • Brief Description:  Women at Work aims to get women into high wage, high demand careers. Along with Finishing Trades Institute, International Union of Painters, and Allied Trades, women will learn foundational skills to gain work experience over 5 weeks. The program is 40 hours per week and will help women identify, plan, and implement a service project for the community to gain hands-on skills in the finishing trades. Estimated pay for each of the jobs is as follows; Painter: $20.01, Glazer: $28.08, Dry Wall: $25.45. Information on wages is from DEED Detailed Occupational Data.

Information Technology Careers (Hmong American Partnership)

  • Agency: Hmong American Partnership, 1075 Arcade Street, St. Paul, MN 55106 in partnership with American Indian OIC
  • Brief Description:  Working with AIOIC, the IT program provides 8 week courses of lecture, lab, and class assignments for a Basic PC Architecture class. Participants are eligible for paid work experience and service learning by designing and launching a Fix-it Tech clinic with the help of Priority One Technologies. Estimated pay for jobs in the field of Computer Support Specialists is around $30.88 per hour.

Introduction to Nursing Assistant (Hubbs Center)

  • Brief Description: Prepares students to enter a certification class for nursing assistants. Students will learn how to help patients with daily activities like eating and bathing. They will learn over 500 vocabulary words related to health care and health care careers. Students who successfully complete this class will move into a certification nursing assistant class with Inver Hills Community College.

IT Essentials  (Neighborhood House)

  • Brief Description:  Students who complete this course will be able to describe the internal components of a computer, assemble a computer system, install an operating system, and troubleshoot using system tools and diagnostic software. Medical Careers (Minnesota Literacy Council)

  • Agency:  Minnesota Literacy Council, Open Door Learning Center, 2700 East Lake Street, Suite 2500, Minneapolis
  • Brief Description: This class primarily focuses on preparing learners for official nursing assistant certification classes and the state exam. Units include: Hygiene, Nutrition & Hydration, Bowel & Bladder, Infection Control, Data Collection/Vital Signs, Psychosocial Skills, Therapeutic Interaction, Client Rights, Communication Skills, and Home Health Aide. In addition, learners receive a five-course introduction to interpreting in medical contexts and how to work with interpreters in medical facilities. Finally, learners receive CPR/First Aid certification. The course is a 16-week, managed enrollment course. On the final day, learners take a cumulative exam with a goal of at least 75% accuracy.

  • Brief Description: The Minnesota Department of Health requires most food establishments to have a certified food professional on staff at all times. The course fulfills the food manager certification requirements for the State of Minnesota.

Special Low Boiler License (Hubbs Center)

  • Brief Description: This course leads to a state special license which is the first stop needed to operate a boiler. A boiler and related equipment provide steam or hot water for large buildings, such as, office buildings, apartments and industrial buildings.
